When to go
The best time to visit Antelope Canyon
Beams, crowds, heat and flash-flood season all pull in different directions — here's how to weigh them.
Antelope Canyon through the year
| Season | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Spring (Mar–May) | Beams begin, milder temps, building crowds |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Peak beams + peak crowds + heat + monsoon risk |
| Autumn (Sep–Oct) | Beams fade, quieter, monsoon easing |
| Winter (Nov–Feb) | No beams, fewest crowds, softest light, cheapest |
There's no single best time — it depends what you want
If you want the light beams, you're looking at late spring to mid summer around midday. If you want fewer crowds and lower prices, the cooler months are far quieter. The canyon is open year-round, so the choice is really about beams versus crowds versus budget.
Summer: maximum beams, maximum everything else
June to August delivers the strongest beams but also the biggest crowds, the highest prices, desert heat, and the monsoon's flash-flood risk. It's the classic window if beams are non-negotiable — just book early and stay flexible around storm days.
Spring and autumn: the balanced choice
Late spring and early autumn keep some beam activity while easing the crowds and heat, and shoulder-season tours are easier to secure closer to the date. Early October in particular can still catch beams with noticeably lighter crowds than midsummer.
Winter: quiet, soft-lit and affordable
November through February brings no true beams — the sun sits too low — but also the fewest visitors, the softest ambient glow, and the lowest prices. For a calm, unhurried visit and easier photography without crowds, the cooler months are underrated.
The monsoon caveat, whichever month
The summer monsoon (roughly early July to mid September) is the one weather factor that can close the canyon outright at short notice for flash-flood safety. If your trip falls in that window, treat a canyon closure as a real possibility and keep a backup day if you can.
